Water is the most critical factor for human life after oxygen, and it is an essential part of our nutrition. The human being can survive only for a few days in case of thirst, whereas he can stay alive for weeks without having food. Although water content of the human body varies between 42-75% according to age and gender, average %59 of the adult human body consists of water.
• Digestion, absorption and carrying of food to cells,
• Proper functioning of tissues, organs and systems,
• Carrying and eliminating noxious substances created by metabolism from the body,
• Proper functioning of the digestive system
• Ensuring lubricity of joints,
• Realizing various chemical events.
Water intake is very important for growing up and permanence of body functions. Studies showed that daily water consumption in proper amounts helps with
• Chill,
• Constipation,
• Urinary tract infections,
• Protection of skin health,
• Detoxification of the organism from toxin,
• Losing weight in weight control programmes,
prevention of cellulite by regulating humidity and flexibility of skin.Need of the body for water increases to reserve the normal temperature when we get cold in cold days, or in case of extreme heat during very hot and humid days of the summer. Dehydration increases by sweating in hot and humid days. Therefore, increasing the consumption of fluid should be cared these days which rise in the heat started.
• One of the first things to do when getting up in the morning should be to drink 1 glass of water,
• 1 glass of water should be drunk after every toilet to replace dehydration,
• Water consumption should be increased while making exercise and working especially in hot weather,
• Water consumption should be increased especially during travels by air and sea,
• Water should always be put in a visible place, and it should be consumed without waiting for the feeling of thirst.
As a general rule, it is suggested that 8-10 glasses of water (2,5 litres) should be consumed to detoxify and preserve body fluid balance.
Human beings usually meet their need for water from three sources as beverages, food and metabolism. Water is formed as a result of burning the nutrition elements within the food. In case carbohydrate and fat are high compared to protein in a diet, metabolic water increases. We obtain water for our body through the food and beverages we have. For example, almost 85-90% of vegetables and fruit, and 90% of 1 glass of milk consist of water. We also intake water through beverages like tea, coffee, soda etc.that we drink during the day. However, coffee, tea and other caffeinated beverages meet the need for fluid, they are not considered as favourable sources of water. For example, you intake water when you drink caffeinated coffee, but you lose more fluid because of more urination due to its diuretic effect.
Safe water does not contain bacteria, toxic substances and chemicals. Production stages are brought under control in spring water, drinking water and natural mineral water that are commercially sold and licensed by the Ministry of Health, and they are subject to the audit of the Ministry of Health. City water are regularly checked by municipalities, and viruses, bacteria and various pathogens that may be found in it are eliminated by various disinfection methods and it is made safe.

But not every water; the most ideal is the sort of water that high pH value, balancing the negative effects of acidic food we consume in the body and ionized to accelerate cell renewal.
Absolutely prefer the water with over 8 pH value among packed water brands in the market. Start the day with little lemon or apple vinegar dripped tepid two glasses of water. Drink at least three litres of high pH value water and enjoy staying young.
Spring water is the underground water that is naturally formed between geological units with suitable geological conditions and freely flows out to the earth at one or more spots, or extracted by technical methods, and that meets the requirements of labelling, and whose characteristics are defined, and that is not treated by any other process except the ones that are allowed by the Regulation Concerning Water Intended for Human Consumption, which is published by the Ministry of Health, and that is offered to the market by packaging with the purpose of sale.
Drinking water is the underground water that is naturally formed between geological units with suitable geological conditions and freely flows out to the earth at one or more spots, or extracted by technical methods, and processes like disinfection, filtration, precipitation, purification and alike which are approved by the Ministry, and that is obtained by increasing or decreasing the parameter values, and that meets the requirements of labelling, , and that is offered to the market by packaging with the purpose of sale.
This water is not assessed as natural water since they are processed.
Taste of natural spring water is fully natural and no chemical additive is added nor is a chemical process applied.
Filtration and ozonisation that are physical process are applied to the extent that is allowed by the related regulation about natural spring water. Filtration is applied to strain sand particles in the size of micron that may come off the source. Ozonisation, on the other hand, is the process of introducing O3 (Ozone) between the amount of 0.2 – 0.4 ppm into water for the hygiene of the filled bottle, namely the product. Ozonisation is a reliable method that has been most commonly used by water manufacturers all over the world for a long time for hygiene safety. This process is applied just before filling water into bottle, and it ensures keeping it for a long time without spoiling. Ozone gas remaining in the bottle after the filling evaporates by itself between 5-20 hours depending on the ambient temperature and transforms into oxygen.
City water is generally obtained from surface water like river, lake and dam water.
City water is usually treated with chlorine-based disinfection process to ensure microbiological safety.
The fact that the natural spring water bottled means that it has assurance that it carries no public health-wise risk as its license is obtained in accordance with very strict provisions of the Ministry of Health, and it is always under audit so that filling of the subject matter spring water can be done. On the other hand, it is not possible to refer to such a strong assurance for city water. Water in the bottled natural spring water is pure and clean as at its source. You can drink it directly from its source without any need for an additional process. Pureness and cleanness of water is under very strictly control from the spot where it first flows out to the earth to the filling into bottles on full automatic machines.
On the other hand, journey of water to tap is different; city water is obtained from surface water like in streams and rivers and this water arrives at drainage basins or dams by carrying all the contaminant elements that transmit from surface (residues, metals, parasites, microbes and viruses). Water stored this way are pumped into dwellings via water supply pipes after treated with the processes of filtration, chlorination, and disinfection. Substances like chlorine used in these processes carry health-wise risks in the long term, furthermore, all kinds of foreign matters like rust, soil, parasite, microbe and virus reach dwellings in city water. Generally, tap water has an unpleasant odour and taste due to disinfectants that they contain like chlorine. Whereas, we can mention only natural taste of water in bottled water.
Consequently, bottled natural spring water is a commercial product that has to gain the satisfaction and trust of the consumer with its hygiene, package and brand. Therefore, investments done are huge; no sensible water businessman can take the chance of being pulled out of the market by jeopardizing the health of the consumer except those small pirate firms. All in all, motivation of the public which produces and serve city water cannot be as efficient as the private sector.
There is a big difference between city water and bottled water regarding the size of production realized, number of consumers service rendered, and thus, understanding of quality. While there exists an obligation to meet the need of hundreds of thousands or even millions of people most of the time even at medium quality by the public, competitive approach forms the basis to meet relatively much smaller number of consumers the best way in the bottled water industry.
Packaged water must be clean and healthy as at its source. You can drink it directly from its source without any need for an additional process.

It should be kept at 5-15 degrees Celsius, cool, away from sun light and in a dry place with less than 50% humidity place. Further, it should be kept away especially from chemicals, detergents, cleaning substances, petrol and similar substances as much as possible. Because water is a pure substance and it has the characteristics to slowly draw all odours that we even do not perceive in the environment.
1. Grade of air permeability of the glass bottle: Type and thickness of the bottle packaging determines the air permeability. That in turn, determines, whether the subject packaging will be protected against external odours or not. Water in PET and polycarbonate bottles are more sensitive for external odours due to their molecular structures.
2. Mineral concentration of water (being hard or soft): As the mineral concentration of the soft water is less intense and purer, they absorb environmental odours more compared to the hard water.
3. Storage conditions: If proper storage and preservation conditions (clean, odourless, away from sunlight) are not prepared water may be spoiled (turning green, sedimentation).
Frequent cleaning and replacing of water pumps at certain intervals are important for keeping the quality of water. Since the practical usage of demijohn water it exists almost every home, thus, cleaning the pumps is important to extend the life of water. These pumps that are commonly used cause remarkable decomposition of taste and odour. Because the blowers inside water pumps attracts pieces of sand since they are always wet, it causes serious contamination by time. You should replace the pump once you feel bad taste and odour in water.
The worker who cleans water fountain begins to work by showing his firm identity to related organization, establishment or consumer.
He must wear gloves for hygiene.
Plastic parts are initially disassembled and disinfected.
Disinfectant is applied inside steel vessel with a piece of clean sponge and kept for 5-10 minutes.
Plastic parts disassembled from the fountain are rinsed with plenty of water.
Then inside the steel vessel is washed with sponge, and the water inside the fountain is discharged through back hot water release and front cold water tap.
After interior of the vessel is cleaned cold water pipe is disinfected with brush and mounted back after rinsing.
After completing these processes inside is rinsed with clean water and discharged from taps.
Other parts are also mounted.
Now the fountain is ready to use.
This process is repeated every 3-6 months.
Need for water varies from person to person depending on various factors like the extent of physically being active, climate and current diseases (for example kidney disease). Although 35 ml of water per one calorie taken or per kilogramme is recommended, generally a healthy person should drink 2,5-3 litres of water daily to replace dehydration occurring every day.
Yes! Definitely we should drink more water in the summer. The more the body sweats the more it gets heated and dehydrates especially in summer months. Therefore, it is essential to renew water stock often and in more amounts compared to the winter.
Consume one drink at every meal and refreshment.
Do not trust the feeling of thirst alone. Sometimes feeling of thirst may not be a reliable criteria due to usage of medicine or status of health. Have a bottle of water present on your table, in the car, bag or any place that reminds you to drink water.
Keep the beverages at medium heat. Medium heat served fluids-namely, neither hot nor cold- are generally consumed more.
Choose beverages according to your level of activity and life style. Think to choose a low calorie beverage if you care the amount of calorie you intake, or produce your own refreshing drinks.
Adnan Cavuş, the President of the Association of Manufacturers of Packaged Water, the only NGO organization in this field of industry, indicated that the Association was established to pioneer in both of activities of giving trainings and rising awareness for the public benefit and healthy production and consumption of water.
Adnan Cavuş, the President of the Association of Manufacturers of Packaged Water, made explanations about the demijohn that is an important actor of the fast growing packaged water market to inform the consumer.
Increase in the consumption of packaged water under the present conditions is no doubt the proof of awareness towards the usage of healthy water in respect to the consumer. Annual per capita water consumption reaches up to 96 litres in the sector according to the data of 2007. Adnan Çavuş states that the sector is going to catch a 20% growth according to 2008 year-end data. Adnan Çavuş, who gave information about demijohn water that holds the share of 70 litres per capita states, “Demijohn water that is so much in our daily life is produced in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Health, and is regularly inspected.” Adnan Çavuş, who remarked that the effect of the conditions of preservation on the quality of the water which was produced in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Health was indisputable, warned consumers about this matter as SUDER.
You should first check whether the packaged water you consume has license from the Ministry of Health, and date and number of the license on its label. Observe that the brand exists on four different places consisting of label, body (embossment), security band and tap. Furthermore, label information must include its type, address of production, processes applied on water and its parameters. Dates of production and expiry, serial and lot numbers, and also logo of the company must be embossed on demijohn. Security band is the indicator that you are the first to open the water. Another important matter is that the demijohn water preserves its healthy structure at least for 10 days provided that it is kept in a sufficiently ventilated and clean environment without being subject to direct sunlight. Demijohn water should also be kept in a dry and cool environment.
All the surfaces of water fountains that contact water must be disassembled one by one and washed and disinfected ay a frequency which is determined according to the conditions of environment where they are used. If this process is not repeated at needed intervals, contamination in water may cause unpleasant taste and odour.
President of SUDER, Adnan Çavuş, who reacted to the news on the press that demijohns negatively affected human health indicated that “they followed international developments and related discussions closely and that people should not worry because of news which do not depend on certain scientific data and results.”
Bottled water is licensed by the Ministry of Health and plants are regularly audited by the Ministry of Health and Provincial Directorates of Health. Furthermore, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs gives license for all package materials including and control them. Numbers in the recycling logo at the bottom of the package show what material the package is made of. Number 3 defines polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and 7 defines polycarbonate (PC). These materials that have been commonly used all over the world for over 50 years are packaging materials that are the most reliable and approved by competent authorities in the world.
President of SUDER, Adnan Çavuş also made explanation about the news recently seen in the press about the substance of bisphenol A in demijohns. He stated that discussions were made about additives that were added to food and all other substances that were in contact with food in international field by the public from time to time, and that there has been no certain scientific data that bisphenol A (BPA) that was used in the production of polycarbonate threatened the human health nor it negatively affected it.
American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced that the products that were made of polycarbonate plastic which BPA was used and that contacted with food were safe with a press release. European Food Safety Authority confirmed once more that metabolisms had such capacity to fully eliminate the substance of bisphenol A, and that it did not constitute any risk against health in their statement released in July.
President of SUDER, Adnan Çavuş remarked that the usage of substances and materials contacting with food was allowed according to the regulations of international bodies after long time researches in his statement. He also added that the most competent authorities like "Codex Alimentarius" Commission, which was the joint organization of WHO (World Health Organization) and FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) did not have any decision that BPA negatively affected the human health.

Mineral water comes up to the earth with all its minerals and carbon dioxide gas content finding its way through cracks, and it is completely natural. Soda, on the other hand, is a drink made of water and other beverages made of water which is fully “soda” into which carbon dioxide gas under pressure is dissolved.
